While both are made with watermelon and lime zest, they are made with a different recipe. Last summer was the breakthrough year for watermelon ale as so many brewers released their own watermelon ale, it became the Spring/Summer version on Pumpkin Ale. New Belgium is crafted with ale yeast, nugget hops, pale and caramel-80 malts, watermelon, and lime peel.It pours to a pale golden color with a fluffy head. The aroma is malty ale with subtle watermelon and lime. The malty ale entry has a light fruit backing. It builds to a fresh watermelon peak before fading lightly hopped with lime zest taste. New Belgium Juicy Watermelon will not Wow you with a burst of watermelon flavor. In fact I tasted more watermelon in last years Heavy Melon. That said I enjoyed the taste of New Belgium Juicy Watermelon, but I feel the name on the label builds expectations, and while the watermelon taste was natural, NB Juicy Watermelon over promises and under delivers juicy watermelon taste.
