Review: Kirkland Irish Cream Liqueur

by Jeff Ellingson

Kirkland Irish Cream Liqueur is made in Ireland.  Kirkland is the house brand of Costco, so you will need a membership to purchase this product.  The listed ingredients include fresh dairy cream, Irish Whiskey, whey spirits, and hazelnut, but the label also promises chocolate and caramel flavor.  Kirkland Irish Cream Liqueur is only available in 1.75 liter bottles, but at $15.99 a bottle, the price is comparable to a 750ml bottle of Baileys. It pours to a chocolate milk color.  The aroma is milk chocolate, caramel, and whiskey.  The feel is both thick and creamy.  The creamy milk chocolate entry is joined by hazelnut.  The chocolate flavor builds in intensity to a chocolate caramel peak.  It fades with real Irish whiskey flavor that continues through a smooth caramel finish that has a hint of coconut.  I was a little disappointed that Costco only sold a 1.75 liter bottle, until I tasted it.  The double size bottle won’t be a problem.

Purchased this product recently and am very impressed with the quality for the price vs. Bailey’s. I recommend this product.

You don’t need a membership to get into the costco liquor store as it is against the law in canada to require a membership to a liquor store. Anyone can go in because they are outside of the main warehouse.

Most Irish Creams are OK to leave unrefrigerated. Kirkland does not have a refrigerate after opening on the bottle so you should be OK. You will know if it has gone bad because it will be chunky. Kirkland recommends consuming within six months of opening. This is a conservative estimate.

Thanks Eva ! Picked up a bottle yesterday and it does not disappoint, im also getting slight coffee notes but I love this drink.

Sasha Irish Creams can be stored out of the fridge generally, I prefer mine from the fridge as I hate adding ice.

I did a taste test against Baileys I could personally taste a slight difference and do prefer Baileys but the difference in cost per size- I take Kirkland n the 1.75 liter.

just wish it had calorie count on it.

I’ve been drinking Bailey’s since it was introduced to the US in the late 1970’s. If there is a difference with Kirkland Irish Crème, I can’t taste it. I’ve had 4 or 5 bottles so far, and you can’t beat the price, so Kirkland is my new favorite

I bought a bottle of Kirkland’s Irish Cream a couple weeks ago and I have to say for an Irish Cream, I am dancin’ a jig!! Yeah Baily’s is good, oh but of course with it’s notes of yummines! But for the price, this Kirkland’s Irish Cream made me feel like a wee bonny lass singin’ at the Brigadoon; and I am only Irish by marriage! But me ayes’re smylin’. 🙂

I usually use Tia Maria Coffee Liqueur to make a drink called Brown Cow (Jamaican). I am not a big drinker, but I absolutely love the taste of Kirkland Irish Cream Liqueur. I definitely recommend it and will buy it again. I actually bought it for a friend of mine….who is a huge Bailey’s drinker. He was impressed with the taste and even went so far as to admitting that it tasted better that Bailey’s.

you do NOT need a membership to shop at Costco’s liquor store.. I am not a big drinker, I get sick very easily. Bailey’s gives me heartburn but the Kirkland Signature Irish Cream is delicious. It goes perfectly with the coffee I drink and does not effect my stomach or give me heartburn AT ALL. Now that I have discovered the Kirkland Signature Irish Cream I will never buy Bailey’s again.

Is it made with real hazelnuts? Allergies.

The fact that they list hazelnuts as an ingredient tells me real hazelnuts are included. If it was just hazelnut flavor, the ingredient list would state natural flavors. If I had a contact or even knew which distillery made this for Kirkland I would ask.

Drinking it as I type. Bought a bottle last week and compared it to the Bailey’s we had on hand. Honestly could not tell a difference. Went back today and bought a dozen bottles. $14.99 here in Ohio; about 14 the cost of Baileys. Only available seasonally at Costco.
    Wow, what a deal.

People, please stop posting that you do not need to be a member of Costco in order to buy alcohol there. It varies depending on state laws and right now only about a dozen states have laws that would allow you to buy alcohol at Costco without being a member.
