Review: Firefly Peach Moonshine

by Jeff Ellingson

firefly peach moonshine - CopyFirefly Peach Moonshine is one of six flavors they launched their line of moonshine with March 2013.  They now craft seven, and my guess is more will follow on Wadmalow Island, 30 miles south of Charleston South Carolina.  It is made with corn, barley, wheat, sugar and natural flavors in two 300 gallon home made pot stills.  To handle demand outside of South Carolina, Firefly moonshine is produced and bottled by Sazerac in Frankfort Kentucky. It pours to a peach Jell-O color.  The aroma is fresh pressed peach.  In my mouth the feel is slightly syrupy.  The sweet peach entry is joined by vanilla and a hint of spice, building to a tart peach peak.  It fades with a gentle wave of heat and a peach enhanced corn whiskey flavored finish, with a mild burn as I swallow.  This is a candy sweet moonshine that may be too sweet for some, but if you can handle the sweetness it offers enough natural peach and corn whiskey flavor to put a smile on your face.
