Review: Bird Dog Maple Whiskey

by Jeff Ellingson

bird dog maple whiskey - CopyBird Dog Maple Whiskey is one of four flavored whiskeys that in addition to an unflavored whiskey are distilled by Western Spirits under the Bird Dog label.  They also recently introduced a peppermint moonshine.  It is made with corn, malted barley, and rye and it is aged in white oak barrels.  Natural maple flavor is infused before bottling in Bowling Green Kentucky at 80 proof. The aroma is equal parts whiskey and maple syrup.  The flavor enters as sweet whiskey building to a butterscotch peak and fading with a mild mouth warming before a maple flavored finish.  Based on the aroma I was anticipating a lot more maple flavor throughout.  I was also expecting more of a syrupy texture.  What I got was a sweet bourbon that finished with a very natural maple finish.  BD Maple is smooth enough to sip on the rocks or serve in a cocktail.

You’ve listed Bardstown, KY as the source of the whiskey.
Any idea what distillery it comes from?
