Review: Revel Stoke S’Moregasm Whisky

Revel Stoke S’Moregasm is one of 12 flavored Canadian Whisky’s currently produced by Philips Distillers.  All are made with a triple distilled Canadian Whisky base made from a blend of rye, corn, and barley at a distillery in Alberta Canada.  The whisky is aged for 3 years in charred white oak barrels.  The barrels are shipped to Princeton Minnesota where natural flavors are blended before bottling at 70 proof.  Revel Stoke rebranded their product line last fall to shift the focus from flavor to bold energy.  Each flavor is identified by a personality driven name.  Revel Stoke Peach became Son of a Peach.  Peanut Butter became Nutcrusher, Cinnamon became Hot Box.  Revel Stoke S’Moregasm was released July 2022 along with Revel Stoke Big Richard Dill Pickle flavored whisky.  it is crafted to bring back memories of roasting marshmallows on an open fire and sandwiching the finished product with milk chocolate and a graham cracker.  Read more »

Review: Oak & Eden Wheat & Honey

Oak & Eden Wheat & Honey was launched September 29, 2022.  It is sold exclusively at oakandeden.com.  This is one of several whiskey expressions in the Oak & Eden product line.  Oak & Eden was founded by brothers Joe and James Giildenzopf in 2018.  Each whiskey base is distilled and barrel aged for a minimum three years at MGP in Lawrenceburg Indiana.  The barreled whiskey is bottle finished, instead of double barrel finished by Oak & Eden at their distillery in Bridgeport Texas.  A 5 inch long spiral cut piece of wood is placed in every bottle of the aged whiskey.  Oak & Eden Wheat & Honey is crafted from a bourbon base made from a mash bill of 51% corn, 45% wheat, and 4% Malted Barley.  One honey soaked medium toasted 5 inch long spiral piece of oak that had rested in honey is dropped in each bottle of Oak & Eden Wheat and Honey. Review: Ambros Banana Whiskey

Ambros Banana Whiskey was released October 2018.  It is made from a 3 year old Irish Whiskey base and infused with only 100% real banana’s in Henderson Nevada.  To be specific no artificial flavors, “natural” flavors, fruit juice concentrate, or added sugar are added.  50,000 hand peeled bananas are needed for each batch of Ambros.  Banana’s are the most consumed fruit on the planet yet they have yet to make much of an impact in the world of adult beverages.  I have reviewed 4 banana flavored vodka’s and all four are no longer produced.  The only banana flavored vodka currently produced is Burnetts Strawberry Banana.  With dozens of flavor varieties the only banana flavored hard seltzer I’m aware of is the just released Happy Dad Banana Hard Seltzer, available as a limited release.  Banana seems to be limited to flavored rum and whiskey.  We have previously reviewed Howler Head, Skatter Brain, and Whiskey Smith banana flavored whiskey.  Ambros is the only banana spirit I’m aware of infused with real banana, so we are anxious to taste the results. Warrior Peanut Butter Cup Whiskey was launched May 2020 by former vet Rich Clemson and his wife Mary. They sold their business, Pasta USA, in 2006 and instead of retiring they looked for their next challenge.  Their previous business gave them several grain based connections so the decided to start crafting spirits.  By December 2017 they were producing vodka and gin at their Liquid Brands Distillery, built in a 7500 square foot renovated warehouse in East Spokane Washington.  They currently produce 22 spirits including several whiskey’s, vodka’s, and gins.  The whiskey base is made from locally sourced corn grown in Palouse Hills Washington.  Once distilled in their custom build still the whiskey rests in new American white oak barrels.  Natural flavors are blended before bottling at 70 proof. Review: Hinch Small Batch Irish Whiskey

The 30,000 square foot Hinch Distillery opened its doors in 2021.  It was built by Dr. Terry Cross on the historic Killaney Estates in County Downs Ireland at a cost of $19 million.  County Downs had a strong distilling history from the late 18th century until the early 20th century.  It was home to seven Irish Whiskey Distilleries.  They are already producing Ninth Wave Gin, and a true grain to glass whiskey that is currently barrel aging.  In the mean time they are sourcing their whiskey from another distillery.  Hinch Small Batch Irish Whiskey is one of nine Irish whiskies they currently produce.  It is made from a blend of 25% single malt and 75% single grain whiskeys and it is matured for 3-4 years in the finest first fill bourbon casks, and bottled at 86 proof. Review: George Dickel X Leopold Bros, Collaboration Rye Whiskey

George Dickel X Leopold Bros. Collaboration Rye Whiskey was recently released.  It is a collaboration of two of the most creative and dynamic Master Distillers in the industry today.  Todd Leopold and Nicole Austin of Cascade Hollow Distilling.  Here is what we know about this whiskey.  It is made with George Dickel never before released traditional column still rye.  Previous Dickel rye releases have been sourced from MGP of Indiana.  In the US rye whiskey is by law made from a mash of at least 51% rye, and that is what several ryes including Knob Creek Rye, Rittenhouse, and Jim Beam Rye are made from.  This George Dickel Rye is made from a 95% rye 5% malt mash bill.  It is blended with Leopold Bros. Three Chamber Rye.  For over a hundred years American rye whiskey was commonly produced in a three chamber still to extract not only distillate but also oils and aromas hidden in the grain.  Production of this style ended after World War II.  Leopold Bros. painstakingly re-engineered a three chamber still from old manuscripts.  It was built by Vendome Copper Brass Works.  Their rye is crafted from 80% Abruzzi rye grown on rye fields 25 mile north of the distillery and 20% malt, and not just any malt.  Leopold floor malts their own Colorado grown grains on-site at their distillery.  The spirit is barrel aged for 4 years.
