Review: Zackariah Harris Eggnog

Zackariah Harris Eggnog is made by Glenmore Distillery Louisville Kentucky.  The Glenmore distillery is owned by Sazerac.  The bottle reads it is made from eggnog and Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.  Glenmore also makes Zackariah Straight Bourbon Whiskey so I’m guessing that is the bourbon used here.  Zackariah Harris Bourbon is aged for 3 years in new charred American oak barrels and it is bottled in the same squared shaped bottle as Jack Daniels.  Probably just a coincidence. Review: Winterhaven Farms Egg Nog

Winterhaven Farms Egg Nog is made from 100% natural double cream, fresh eggs, fine rum, brandy, and whiskey.  Adult Egg Nog along with Irish Cream liqueurs are typically viewed as a seasonal beverage and we are in that season now, but unlike Irish Cream liqueurs which you can easily find year round, adult egg nog will start to disappear from most store shelves once the new year arrives.  Winterhaven Farms is one of several egg nogs currently available at Total Wine and More.  What stood out for me compared to the other egg nogs on their shelf was Winterhaven Farms is made with double cream.  Double cream has a butterfat level of 48%.  By comparison Heavy cream weighs in at 36%. Review: Eggo Nog Sippin Cream

Eggo Nog Sippin Cream was just released by Sugarlands Distilling Company.  Sugarlands opened their distillery in Gatlinburg Tennessee March 2014.  They currently produce 20 Moonshines, Roaming Man Whiskey, 7 canned cocktails, High Rock Vodka, Mark & Diggers Hazelnut Rum, and 7 Appalachian Sippin Creams.  Sugarlands partnered with Kellogg in crafting Eggo Nog Sippin Cream.  If you have ever had a frozen waffle it probably was made by Kellogg.  Lead by their Eggo brand they dominate the 1+ billion $ US frozen waffle market with over a 70% market share.  Jarred instead of bottled Eggo Nog Sippin Cream is a tip of the hat to their Moonshine origins, but make no mistake Eggo Nog is made with a rum base, dairy cream, and natural flavors. Review: Van Der Haute Traditional Eggnog Liqueur

Van Der Haute Traditional Eggnog Liqueur is made with real dairy cream, spiced rum, and French brandy.  It is produced by LeVecke Corporation in Mira Loma California and is sold at grocery stores owned by Safeway and Albertsons.  LeVecke is one of the world’s largest spirit producers.  Since Van Der Haute is a made up name I’m trying to guess the Dutch connection with eggnog since most agree eggnog originated in England.  The best I could come up with is Advocaat is a traditional Dutch alcoholic beverage made from eggs, sugar, and brandy.  LeVecke produces eggnog liqueur for several different brands including Kirkland, Skrewball, and Trader Joes.  They also produce a second Van Der Haute Eggnog Liqueur made from a wine base, and Van Der Haute Gingerbread Cream Liqueur. Review: Skrewball Eggnog

Skrewball, The Original Peanut Butter Whiskey just released Skrewball Eggnog.  It is made with real dairy cream, natural flavors and of course Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey.  For those unfamiliar with Skrewball it was created in 2018 by Steve Yeng, a Cambodian immigrant and his wife Brittany Yeng.  Steve and his family own a couple of restaurants including OB Noodle House in Ocean Beach California and The Holding Company in San Diego.  A peanut butter flavored whiskey cocktail was the signature cocktail he developed for the restaurants.  Steve thought a peanut butter flavored whiskey would be a big seller.  He worked with his wife Brittany who has a Masters Degree in chemistry while she was on maternity leave to develop Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey.  While brandy has been the traditional spirit to blend with eggnog, rum, cognac, and whiskey have also been used to make a tasty adult eggnog.  Skrewball Eggnog weighs in at 29.5 proof.  By comparison Rumchata is 27.5 proof and Bailey’s Irish Cream 34 proof. Review: Molly’s Strawberry Irish Cream

Molly’s Strawberry Irish Cream was just launched in the US as a Limited Edition release, joining Molly’s Original, and my personal favorite flavored Irish cream Molly’s Coconut.  Molly’s also makes Molly’s Pumpkin Spice as a Seasonal Limited Edition.  Strawberry is the third most popular flavor of ice cream sold in the US, making strawberry a logical choice for a new Irish cream liqueur.  There are over 100 Irish Cream and Irish Country creams sold today.  Only a few distilleries produce all of these brands.  Molly’s is crafted by the largest family owned producer of Irish Cream at their own state of the art plant in the heart of Irelands Dairyland.  This total control allowed Molly’s the opportunity to produce countless versions of Strawberry Irish Cream before selecting this one.  Just like the other Irish creams in Molly’s family, one third of each bottle of Molly’s Strawberry Irish Cream consists of fresh Irish cream.  When I say fresh, 48 hours earlier the cream used to craft Molly’s was still in the grass fed cows.  Aged Irish Whiskey, the finest Irish spirits, and natural strawberry flavor complete the ingredient list. Review: Ole Smoky Pumpkin Spice Cream Whiskey

Ole Smoky Pumpkin Spice Cream Whiskey is now available as a Limited Time seasonal release.  This is another sign we have entered fall.  Living in the Midwest the temperature has dropped and leaves have fallen.  The football season has begun and the baseball season is nearing completion.  Halloween Trick or Treat candy displays arrived a month ago, and Costco has transitioned from Key Lime Pie to Pumpkin Pie.  There is no food product that signifies fall more than pumpkin.  Turkey has a day.  Pumpkin has a season.  But lets be honest while Pumpkin Pie, Pumpkin Muffins and some Pumpkin Beers are made with real pumpkin, pumpkin spice is the real flavor of fall.  It’s Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte, Pumpkin Spice Cheerios, Pumpkin Spice Twinkies, Pumpkin Spice Oreo’s, and believe it or not Pumpkin Spice Spam.  Some even feed their best friends Pumpkin Spice Milk Bone Dog Biscuits.  None of these products have any real pumpkin.  Fall is also Prime Time for cream liqueurs as more cream liqueur will be consumed in the next few months than the rest of the year.  Ole Smoky Pumpkin Spice Cream Whiskey, is both pumpkin spice flavored and a cream liqueur.  Ole Smoky is best known for its Moonshine, they currently produce 32 different varieties.  They also craft 17 different flavors of whiskey.  Ole Smoky Pumpkin Spice Cream Whiskey is made from a 100% corn whiskey base that is barrel aged for 2 years.  Milk, cream, soy, natural and artificial flavors are blended before bottling at 35 proof.
